BONOW’S NATIONAL FINISH HIGHLIGHTS CONTINUED GROWTH OF ASBURY ATHLETICS ON NCAA NATIONAL STAGE
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Asbury University sophomore Ethan Bonow finished fifth in the nation in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, earning First Team All-American honors.
Competing against the nation’s top swimmers, Bonow secured his place in the finals with a strong preliminary swim before returning in the evening session to post a 47.74 100 butterfly time and claim a top-five national finish.
The achievement marks a significant milestone not only in Bonow’s career, but also for Asbury Athletics, as the program continues to gain momentum and recognition on the national stage.
A minute does not go by without remembering how grateful I am to be able to serve the Lord in this capacity."
“He has given me an amazing leader in Coach Graham Duncan, who has guided my training so faithfully. I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from the Asbury community, my friends, and my family back home. I am very hopeful for the future. Go Eagles!”
Bonow opened the championships earlier in the week in the 50 freestyle before returning to the pool for his signature event, the 100 butterfly, where he delivered his All-American performance.
Asbury men’s and women’s swimming fourth year head coach Graham Duncan ’16 reflected on both the moment and Bonow’s character following the race.
“I’m still in shock and in awe of what happened today,” Duncan said. “I’ve never seen anyone seize a moment the way Ethan did. To finish top-five in the country in anything is special—and Ethan is special. I’m incredibly proud of the way he uses his talents to point people to Jesus.”
Bonow’s performance and mission reflects the heart of Asbury University Athletics, serving, training, and competing for the glory of God.
