Asbury University Sales Team Earns Top 10 Finish at University of Toledo Invitational

Asbury’s Franchesca Rooney and Ava Culver power eighth-place team finish against 36 competing universities

Asbury University proudly celebrates the outstanding work of Franchesca Rooney ’27 and Ava Culver ’28, who represented AU at this year’s University of Toledo Invitational Sales Competition. Rooney competed in the Junior Division, while Culver entered the Freshman/Sophomore Division. Both students demonstrated professionalism, preparation, and poise as they faced strong competition from universities across the country.

The competition featured two rounds and followed a bracket-style format. In Round 1, competitors presented in groups of six, and the top three sellers in each room advanced to the Finals. Based on their placement in the first round, advancing competitors moved into the Gold, Silver, or Bronze brackets. Those who finished fourth through sixth were eliminated. In the Final Round, each bracket determined placements from first through sixth, ultimately shaping both individual and team results.

Rooney and Culver delivered strong performances in Round 1. Rooney earned a third-place finish in her room, advancing to the Bronze bracket in the Finals. Culver secured first place in her room, earning a spot in the Gold bracket. Although the competition did not compare scores across rooms, Culver achieved the highest Round 1 score of any competitor in the Freshman/Sophomore Division—an impressive accomplishment that highlights her preparation and skill.

In the Final Round, Rooney placed fifth in the Bronze Division, and Culver finished fourth in the Gold Division. Their combined efforts propelled Asbury University (AU) to a Top 10 University Team finish, tying for eighth place out of 36 competing schools.

This result reflects not only individual excellence but also the strength and consistency of AU’s Sales Team program.”
Dr. George Allen Associate Professor of Marketing and Center for Professional Selling Director

This year’s team benefited from the leadership of Coach Michael Secen ’20, an accomplished AU Sales Team alumnus who competed in this same event in 2018. Secen invested significant time preparing Rooney and Culver for the competition, drawing from both his collegiate competition experience and his professional experience since graduating from Asbury.

“We thank God for His guidance and provision throughout this event, and we commend Franchesca, Ava, and Coach Secen for representing the Lord and Asbury University with excellence,” Allen said. “Please join us in congratulating them on their hard work, preparation, and strong performance at the University of Toledo Invitational Sales Competition.”
