On November 18-20, Asbury University hosted the High School Counselor Fly-In/Drive-In event in partnership with the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals (NACCAP). During this event, high school college and career readiness counselors experienced campus life, including Chapel, lunches, professional development sessions, and more.
“This event gave high school counselors a meaningful view of Asbury, our Christ-centered mission, our people, and the student experience, while creating space to connect, share best practices, and be encouraged by experienced Christian counseling professionals,” said Jennifer McChord, vice president of enrollment and marketing at Asbury University.
Counselors also learned about Asbury University programs, the financial aid process, and student experiences on campus.
“This is the first event I have attended with NACCAP, and I was thrilled to see the event hosted by Asbury and to bring back ideas to implement at my school,” said attendee Mori Crawford, who serves as academic advisor at Rose Hill Christian School in Ashland, Ky. “I enjoyed the professional development sessions and the opportunity to network with other Christian admissions professionals.”
“Investing in the next generation is so important,” said Annie Sisk, Asbury University special events and outreach coordinator. “By learning about Asbury University and building relationships with professionals in the field, these counselors can go back to their schools and share what they have learned about Asbury University with high school students.”
Since 1970, NACCAP has been the foremost professional enrollment organization promoting career development, spiritual growth and mutual cooperation between United States and Canadian institutions of Christian education. NACCAP desires to serve the interests of its member institutions and students seeking admission into Christian colleges, universities, graduate schools and seminaries by providing professional accountability, support and recruitment standards.
“The value of having K-12 Christian school counselors on Christian higher ed campuses, like Asbury, is truly invaluable,” said Janet Pargeter, NACCAP director of K-12 development. “Experiencing the day-to-day life of students, hearing from presidents and professors, attending chapel, touring campus, and sharing meals in the dining hall offers an exceptional, tangible perspective on the reality of the institution. This experience enriches how counselors guide their students toward the right college fit, particularly within Christian higher education, and represents an incredible advantage for the Fly-In/Drive-In host institutions.”
As a nationally ranked Christian liberal arts institution in the heart of Kentucky, Asbury University has 15 academic departments offering more than 120 undergraduate areas of study, along with graduate degrees in business, Christian ministry, communication, media, and education and an online undergraduate program. More than 22,000 living alumni surround the globe, leading and serving in all 50 states and at least 80 nations.
