During this year’s Reunion celebration, Asbury University honored three exceptional alumni with the prestigious “A Award,” a recognition bestowed upon those who exemplify academic excellence, spiritual vitality, and faithful service in their areas of influence. This year’s recipients were Rev. Howard Biddulph ’65, Dr. Steve Seamands ’70, and Patti Snelling ’75 Howard.
Rev. Howard Biddulph ’65
Biddulph has been a pillar of leadership and spiritual mentorship since his student days, when he served as president of the Class of 1965. Alongside his wife, Jan Fraser ’64 Biddulph (an “A Award” recipient in 1994), he dedicated more than 30 years to missionary work in Colombia. Their ministry evolved from university outreach into a thriving house church network that grew to support multiple congregations. Biddulph’s kindness, compassion and contagious love of the Lord left an indelible mark on this Country.
Biddulph later transitioned into pastoral ministry in Fort Myers, Fla., and today mentors missionaries at Asbury Theological Seminary. A faithful participant in alumni prayer gatherings and a volunteer during the 2023 Outpouring, his influence continues to ripple through the Asbury community and beyond.
“To receive this award at 82 years of age is doubtless an unexpected honor,” he shared. “My favorite part of attending Asbury was making many lifelong friends, detecting my spiritual gifts, and most importantly, finding a wife!”
Dr. Steve Seamands ’70
Seamands, a longtime professor of Christian Doctrine at Asbury Theological Seminary, has served the seminary since 1983. An accomplished author, his books have enriched the lives of countless believers. Seamand’s trinitarian framework guides a ministry deeply rooted in authentic worship, prayer, and emotional healing.
Beyond the classroom, Seamands is a sought-after speaker for retreats and seminars. He ministered during the 2023 Outpouring and remains an advocate for students being “mended” for ministry. Reflecting on the award, he said, “I am honored and blessed. Receiving this award has caused my heart to well up in gratitude to Him.”
When asked what God has taught him over the years, he responded: “Service for Christ is secondary. Loving Jesus is primary. Jesus himself is the pearl of great price.”
Patti Snelling ’75 Howard
Howard devoted 35 years to public education in Clark County, Indiana, where she used her role as a coach and physical education teacher as a platform for ministry. After launching a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) huddled with only three students, the group grew to 120 in just one year. Many of her students came to faith, and her legacy continues through her son Zach, also a teacher, coach, and Huddle leader.
In 2022, FCA inducted her into its Hall of Champions. Now a successful realtor, Howard remains deeply connected to Asbury through generosity, prayer, and service.
Reflecting on her journey, she said, “I didn’t intend to attend Asbury, but God ordered my steps, and teaching became my calling.” From international missions to leading youth in public schools, Patti’s life has been marked by joyful surrender to Christ.
