Asbury University Gameday Team Provides Students Hands-On Sport Career Experience

Asbury students gain real-world skills, build community, and integrate faith while shaping the gameday experience for Asbury Athletics

The Asbury University Gameday Team creates meaningful opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience in college athletics, while providing students a place to connect with peers and learn from the Asbury Athletics Staff. From operating event sound and managing social media content to producing live broadcasts and conducting sideline interviews, students play a vital role in shaping the Asbury gameday experience.

For Asbury students interested in sports-related careers, the Gameday Team bridges classroom learning with real-world application, reflecting Asbury’s commitment to forming students through faith, community, and professional development.

Asbury Athletics hosts more than 100 home events each school year, creating consistent opportunities for AU students to be involved. The Gameday Team offers opportunities for students to serve on the Asbury Sports Digital Network (ASDN) live broadcast. Positions on ASDN for students include producing, directing, commentating, sideline reporting, and camera operation.

Students also contribute to digital media content, official game statistics, event management and operations, public address announcing, and more. The Gameday Team is essential to the success of the Asbury Athletics Communications and Events team, offering opportunities throughout the entire academic year to join a connected and dynamic team.

Guided by a vision to provide belonging, professional development, teamwork, and sports impact, the Gameday Team fosters an environment where Asbury students can grow both personally and professionally. Students consistently highlight the program’s impact on their experience at Asbury.

Anna Anderson ’28, a sideline reporter for the Asbury Sports Digital Network (ASDN), emphasized the strong sense of community within the team.

The atmosphere is always positive—we have formed our own little family—and the experience I have gained working in all of the different sports is amazing.”

“Aside from working with the crew, my favorite part is interviewing athletes and getting to step into their world and hear their stories… I would highly recommend anyone to get involved!”

For students like Lydia Fauth ’27, a junior Communication major focusing on social media, the Gameday Team opens unexpected doors.

I got connected to the Gameday team through something as simple as an email, and it’s opened the door to so many opportunities.”

“I’ve had the chance to gain hands-on experience that you just can’t get in the classroom… and it’s also helped me build meaningful relationships with coaches, athletes, graduate assistants, and staff.”

Opportunities like these allow students to explore roles ranging from content creation to live event production while building a professional network. Josh Laroche, who contributes to gameday operations through event sound and experience, pointed to the program’s deeper purpose.

I enjoy being able to help our student-athletes get in the zone, but to also reflect God… Bringing energy and hype to the atmosphere is of high importance, but it is all to glorify God.”

The Gameday Team equips Asbury students with tangible skills, professional experience, and a sense of calling. It works especially well for Sport Management majors and Communication students with a sport communication emphasis, offering both paid student worker positions and potential internship credit.
