Asbury University Pastor Publishes Book on Radical Humility

Zach Meerkreebs, currently serving on Asbury University’s Spiritual Life team as Pastor of Encounter, has recently published a book titled: “Lower: Igniting Spiritual Awakening Through Radical Humility.”

In this book, Meerkreebs shares his experiences at the Asbury Outpouring in 2023 and wrestles with many people’s questions, including his own, around: “Why Asbury? What did they do? What can we learn about God in this?” With personal stories, Scripture, testimonies from those 16 days at Asbury, wisdom from other Christian writers, and key insights he received in quiet moments with Jesus, Meerkreebs shows readers the path to radical humility and deeper friendship with God. Readers can order the book here.

“As we go lower in our pursuit of humility, we can steward spaces prepared for a move of God and shine Jesus to all those who are watching,” Meerkreebs said.

As Meerkreebs ended his sermon on the campus of Asbury University on that first day of the Outpouring, he challenged students with these words: “Do not leave here until you experience the love of God so that you can pour it out.” View his Chapel sermon here.

Several students remained, praying and worshipping, and others joined them until a crowd formed that grew to over 50,000 and covered the campus and small Kentucky town of Wilmore, Ky. As the worshipping and praying continued, for 16 days and nights, the media began reporting on what came to be called the Asbury Outpouring.

Meerkreebs has the goal in life to be the most grateful person in the room. His gratitude is founded in the gift of Jesus and the Gospel, the joy of being married to Kristin, and being the proud father of three girls; Eden, Esther, and Mercy.

After growing up Jewish and experiencing life in a broken home, Meerkreebs met Jesus through the witness and courage of his friends and their families who loved Jesus boldly around him. Since meeting Jesus, he has had the joy of planting churches, traveling the world as a missionary, investing in leaders, ministering on college campuses, and pastoring in the local church. Since the Outpouring, after getting to meet and spend time with many curious and hungry leaders following those 16 days in February 2023, Meerkreebs has launched Barnabas Collective, a ministry with the goal of encouraging Christian leaders in their pursuit of renewal.

Meerkreebs currently lives in Lexington, Ky., with his wife and daughters and is excited to continue to watch and participate in what God is doing around the world. Readers can order the book here. Learn more about Zach Meerkreebs.
