In January, Asbury University’s Director of Alumni Relations Bert Jones ’89 received the President’s Award from the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce in Nicholasville, Ky. Jones will serve on the Chamber Board this year.
“Bert Jones was my first pastor, mentor and real friend when I needed it the most as 21-year old coming out of a life of addiction just trying to find my footing in my new found faith,” said Todd Johns, Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce President and Executive Director of Revive Ministries, a nonprofit with a substance use treatment program that has served over 4,000 clients across a multi-phase program. “He shared his life with me, poured into me and set me on a trajectory that I never thought possible, including living and serving here in Kentucky.”
Jones and Johns first met in 1998, when Jones helped to plant Harvest Community Church in Kittaning, Pa. At that time, the church met in a restaurant, and Johns worked as a restaurant employee to help Jones set up each week.
“I knew that Todd had been struggling with addiction in his life and the Lord allowed us to develop a friendship,” Jones said. “Several weeks into the friendship, Todd came to know the Lord and started to be active in the life of our growing church. One day, he came to me and said the Lord had called him into the ministry. I had the privilege of mentoring and helping this young man pursue ministry.”
Jones and Johns later reunited after Johns attended Valley Forge Christian College and came to Kentucky to work at GO International, a local mission and outreach ministry with Jones serving as its president during that time.
“It was not long after he arrived that he came to me and shared his God-given vision to start a ministry in this community for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction,” Jones said. “I could not be prouder of Todd Johns. He has become one of the great leaders in our community, and the impact of his vision in this region is outstanding. It pays to invest your life in leaders who have great potential.”
Jones joined Asbury University as Director of Alumni Relations in May 2025.
“From the moment I stepped on the campus in 1985, Asbury has always held a special place in my heart,” Jones said. “My life and ministry over the last 37 years have been greatly impacted by the training I received, the spiritual influence in my life and connections I made at Asbury. I look forward to joining the team and serving our alumni around the world.”
Jones previously served with the Christian Medical and Dental Association as their Vice President of Missions and Member Care and was the Teaching Pastor at South Bristol Church. He served as a lead pastor, a president of GO International and a youth pastor. He is ordained with the Missionary Church and is the author of “Dig In: A Daily Discipleship Devotional for Digging into God’s Word.” He and his wife, Cheryl Glenn ’89 Jones, have three children, Josh ’14 (Kali), Allyson and Aaron ’20 and two grandchildren.
