Campus projects taking shape
WILMORE, KY—Construction and beautification projects on Asbury College’s campus are taking shape rapidly.
Hughes Plaza and Patio
The concrete surface of the new walking plaza has been laid and the curved-brick seating areas are being constructed. Reunion classes for the last three years helped make this project possible.
Morrison-Kenyon Student Center
Since last semester, crews have been focusing on re-opening the student center by fall. On July 19-21, a few local area alumni will donate their time and carpentry skills to finish the deck alongside the Center. Once that is complete, patio furniture will finish the deck.
The patio and seating area between the student center and Johnson Cafeteria is nearing completion. As part of their senior class gift, the Class of 2007 is contributing to this project.
Cabinets for the coffee house, which will be operated by locally-owned Solomon’s Porch, are being constructed and equipment has been ordered.
Alumni should be familiar will the world maps on the floor of the in the Kenyon Room in the back of the old library. These maps along with the rest of the terrazzo floors in the Kenyon room and coffee house area will be revived. Carpet has been ordered for the rest of the building and will be installed at the end of July. Furniture has also been
ordered and will arrive in early August before classes begin.
Several sidewalks throughout the campus have been demolished. Crews will replace these sections and have them open in time for fall classes.
The baseball field is receiving attention this summer to prepare for the new team arriving in August. The dugouts are being repaired and the field resurfaced.
