WILMORE, KY—The 43-member Asbury College Concert Choir makes its six-state spring break tour, March 17-25.

The tour kicks off March 17 in Chicago where David Valkema’88, board member for the Lyric Opera Board, has arranged a backstage tour of the Chicago Lyric Opera House. The choir will take in the Opera’s final production of this season—Dialogue of the Carmelites.

The tour concludes at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C., where the group presents a 30-minute choral prelude to the Eucharist Service. Choirs are selected for this privilege by audition.

Dr. Bea Holz, professor of music education and voice, said, “Only when a student experiences the very special acoustical resonance of such a space can the work of the composer be realized in its intended context.”

“Above all the purpose of this tour is to enrich the listener spiritually,” Holz said. In addition to the music, students give testimonies to challenge the listener to hear and act upon the message of the Gospel.

The tour is a musical ministry to churches, schools, nursing homes or similar para-church ministries. Tour stops are often initiated through a letter of interest from a church or an alumnus.
