Soccer field under construction
WILMORE, KY—The Asbury College soccer field will undergo a major renovation this summer.
The first phase of the project began May 3 and will continue throughout the summer. Construction will include upgrading the current playing surface—widening the field and installing a crowned Bermuda field with an underground sprinkler system; constructing a new spectator grandstand area; and installing a fence around the facility for an arena appearance. The second phase will be the installation of a state-of-the-art lighting system to properly illuminate the playing field.
Former soccer players, parents, fans and alumni have contributed to the soccer field renovation.
The field will be ready for action this fall. The first home game is planned for Aug. 26 when the women’s soccer team will take on Cedarville University.
“The committee has worked tirelessly on this project,” said Gary Kempf, athletic director. “They have been absolutely marvelous.”
Athletes also played a part by calling alumni athletes during a phonathon campaign to raise funds for the renovations.
“This is really positive for the College,” Kempf said. “When people go to the Luce Center, this construction shows them that Asbury College is moving forward.”
