Richard Grimes Collective to perform at Asbury College
The Boston-based contemporary quintet Richard Grimes Collective will perform Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Hughes Auditorium at Asbury College in Wilmore. The performance is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
The quintet will host a master class for Asbury College students, which will also be open to the public in Hughes at 4 p.m.
The ensemble features electric six-string cellist Leigh Stuart, Sam Kassirer on vintage keyboards and percussionists, Aaron Trant, Nick Papador and Richard Grimes. Under Grimes' direction, the ensemble bridges elements of world percussion with Western classical and popular influences to create the group's signature sound. Eclectic yet accessible, raw yet elegant, Billboard Magazine described the quintet as "Sparkling moments that defy classification."
Richard Grimes Collective performs throughout the world in venues ranging from festivals to clubs. With over 50 international concerts scheduled for the 2005-2006 season, the group will be performing at such diverse venues as World Cafe Live in Philadelphia, the Beverly Arts Center of Chicago and Reno Civic Center in Nevada. The educational component of RGC's upcoming Season will include countless master classes at U.S. colleges and universities and outreach activities for literally thousands of children throughout North America.
