WILMORE, KY—The Highbridge Film Festival returns to Asbury University, Saturday, April 24.  The festival has become the largest annual campus event. It was also titled one of the top regional cultural events of 2008, according to Rich Copley of The Herald Leader.  The growth and success of the festival has all taken place over the last six years.

Co-created by Professors Greg Bandy and Jeff Day, the chief objectives of the festival were to give students a place to showcase their talents through redemptive storytelling.  Their vision has become a reality; each year the bar is set higher by student films, and the Special Events class that produces the event now gives the night another level of style.

Drawing film entries produced by Asbury University students and high school students from all over the country, the Highbridge Film Festival selects only about a dozen films to be screened at the event.  Judged by film industry professionals, prizes are presented for both technical and narrative skills.  The evening’s crowd that has numbered over 1400 the last two years also determines an “Audience Favorite” award.

Past judges have included big names like Bruce Broughton, Walden Media President Michael Flaherty, and Different Drummer founder Erik Lokkesmoe.  The three film professionals judging the festival this year are media guru, Phil Cooke, top animator (Open Season 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks) Sean McComber, and actor/speaker/writer/government executive Colmon Elridge III.

The festival’s theme is “vintage-glamour,” and students will come dressed in their classiest for the festival.  Less than a week to go, and the movies are edited, the ribbons tied, and the reception planned.  The only things lacking are the audience and the red carpet.

The Highbridge Film Festival will begin at 7:30 p.m. on April 24, 2010. Tickets are available online at asbury.edu/highbridge/festival or in the Asbury University Bookstore.
