Asbury Announces New School of Business

WILMORE, Ky. — In a Chapel service that combined both elements of tradition and a vision of the future, Asbury University administrators announced to the student body the creation of a School of Business.

The School of Business will provide a home within Asbury’s liberal arts curriculum for business majors, minors and a new online MBA program. While establishing the school is a significant milestone for the University and reflects a forward-thinking vision for growth and influence, the values on which the new school is built are long-standing.

“We talk often about the need for Christians to be competent — not only to have a seat at the table, but to have something to say once they get there,” said Provost Jon Kulaga during the Chapel service. “I can think of no area in which this is more the case than business.”

Leading the School of Business as dean is Dr. Michael Kane. A Lexington, Ky., resident, Kane comes to Asbury with international business experience through Lexmark, IBM and other companies as well as academic and non-profit experience. In remarks on Wednesday, Kane urged students to take a close look at different forces in their lives to better remain grounded in Scripture and faith.

“The power of Scripture to give us direction in life and business cannot be underestimated,” he said. “Business holds the power to bless, but only if it is completely surrendered to God. There is only one owner, and that’s God.”

Asbury will officially celebrate the opening of the new division school with an all-campus event on March 28, featuring nationally recognized speakers and the unveiling of the school’s name.
