Mr. Joe Bruner - “Getting on Your Heart What God Has on His”
“And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” – Matthew 28:18-20
Last week was our family vacation and as we began to prepare for our trip there were several things that needed to get done before we left and then others things that needed to be taken care of while we were gone. We set aside a time to speak to our friend about taking care of the most important things while we were gone on our trip. In the same way, Jesus is about to ascend to heaven and He has asked His disciples to go to a place where He will meet them in order to give them some important information or their assignment while He is gone.
For clarity purposes, the first part of the text could actually read as follows: “as you are going or whatever you are doing, your overarching mission is to make disciples, etc.” Your target audience is the whole world and when looking for a strategy you can look to Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Starting where you are and then having a vision making disciples that encompasses the whole world is what God has called us to.
Jesus gave His followers their mission that they were to be busy after until He returned. It has not changed; we are still tasked with making disciples of all nations and that is our MISSION until He returns.
