Mr. Glenn Hamilton - “Activating Understanding”
Scripture reference: Philemon 1:4-6
“I pray that you will be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” -- Philemon 1:6 (NIV)
We often think of evangelism as one of those “woulds, shoulds, and oughts” of the Christian faith. Unfortunately, that “lens” often finds its starting point in fear. We perceive a major relational “miss” if we were to be too overt in telling others what Christ has done in our lives. We may also be afraid that we won’t be able to answer the hard questions when others bring them, particularly with those who don’t share our faith. That fear can leave us stuck in a place where the focus is on me and how I might be perceived rather than the other who may be ready to hear the Good News.
The truth is that sharing with others does something entirely different in us. It helps builds accurate perspective. It produces a “full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” It reminds us of who we were before Christ and who we are in Him. So, when you get that nudge during a conversation with someone, don’t second guess it. Just open your mouth and He will supply the words. As you develop that muscle of response it will become second nature.
