Class Description

Taught by Professor Trent Ellsworth, an expert on leadership and all things outdoors, the Adventure Education and Leadership masterclass exposes you two three basic areas of outdoors activities: hammock camping, rock climbing and canoeing. Trent takes his expertise and makes the outdoors accessible to anyone, and ultimately teaches how anyone can benefit from being involved in adventure education and leadership activities.

Video sessions

Session 1: Introduction
Meet Professor Trent Ellsworth as he gives an overview of Adventure Education and Leadership (and shares an insider tip on backpacking).

Session 2: Hammock Camping
See the basics of choosing a campsite and setting up a hammock for overnight use.

Session 3: Rock Climbing
Do not try this at home! Trent stresses the importance of safety when climbing and demonstrates the basics of harnesses and getting ropes ready for a climb.

Session 4: Canoeing
Learn a few of the fundamentals of canoeing, and just a handful of strokes to get you started.

Session 5: Conclusion
What you need to know about Adventure Education and Leadership.

 

Prof. Trent Ellsworth

About Your Instructor

Professor Trent Ellsworth has been leading outdoor adventures since 1999. He and his wife Emily have led wilderness programs with a ministry in the mountains of Colorado.  Trent has experience leading groups in rock climbing, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, backpacking, rappelling, caving, and challenge course settings. He is a certified Single Pitch Instructor with the American Mountain Guides Association and a certified Wilderness First Responder. He is also trained in cave, whitewater, and high angle rescues. Trent holds a Master of Arts in Adventure Education from Prescott College and an undergraduate degree in Recreation from Asbury University.

Masterclass: Acting

How do you do it? What are some essentials needed to go from script to camera for a good audition? Carol Anderson teaches these, plus some important tips to make you look stronger and better on camera. Asbury students demonstrate these concepts for a great visual learning experience, providing practical help for your next theatre or film audition.

David Whitaker

Masterclass: Filmmaking

Taught by Professor David Whitaker, a veteran of the industry, this class on filmmaking will expose you to some of the basics of creating films. David draws from his own experience and the content he teaches at Asbury to equip you with some entry-level tools and tips for creating professional video content and telling stories through film.
