Asbury Appoints New Faculty Members for the School Year

Pulling from a range of distinguished academic careers, Asbury University welcomes 11 new faculty members to start the 2022-23 academic year who will further propel the university forward with academic excellence.

“In addition to their spiritual maturity and vision for Christian higher education, our incoming faculty have a variety of academic backgrounds as well as interdisciplinary competencies that make them an ideal fit for Asbury University,” said Asbury President, Dr. Kevin Brown. “They bring specific knowledge to a variety of market-sensitive fields. Moreover, they possess a student-centric mentality—prioritizing the student’s intellectual, communal, moral, and spiritual good—their preparation, maturation, opportunities, and well-being.”

Joining the School of Communication Arts as Assistant Professor of Learning & Technology is Danine Alderete-Tomlin, who earned her M.Ed. from Western Governors University.

Dr. Christel Broady joins the School of Education as the Associate Professor of ESL. She has an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Joining the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences as the Assistant Professor of Social Sciences and History is Dr. Glenn Harden, having earned his M.A. from Asbury Theological Seminary and his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

Entering the Dayton School of Business as Professor of Finance is Dr. Patty Hatfield, with an MBA and Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Elise Kearns returns to teach at Asbury in the School of Science, Health, and Mathematics as the Associate Professor of Exercise Science, having her M.S. from Washington University in St. Louis and her Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Marcus Kilian joins the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences as the Associate Professor of Psychology, having earned his M.Th. from the University of South Africa, his M.Div. from Pentecostal Theological Seminary, and his Psy.D. from Regent University.

Beginning his position in spring of 2023 is Robin Lim, joining the Dayton School of Business as the Assistant Professor of Business. Lim has an M.Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary.

New to the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences as the Assistant Professor of History is Dr. Alex Mayfield, having earned his M.Div. from Boston College and his Ph.D. from Boston University.

Dr. Ben McLaughlin joins the School of Science, Health, and Mathematics as the Assistant Professor of Mathematics, having earned his M.S. and Ph.D. from Florida State University.

Serving as the Assistant Professor of Communication in the School of Communication Arts and the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is Kim Okesson, having earned her M.A. from Wheaton Graduate School and currently writing her Ph.D. dissertation for Regent University.

Dr. Allen Rivas-Prado joins the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences as the Senior Lecturer of Spanish, having earned his M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky.

“Our faculty possess rich experience within their respective fields and a deep commitment to the Wesleyan Holiness approach to educate our students across these years,” Asbury Provost, Dr. Timothy Wooster, said of new and current faculty. “Their experience with emerging technologies and pedagogy will help us to transform our students as they engage with the designed curriculum.”
