ImpactU Provides Summer Fun for High School Students

Summer at Asbury University is in full swing! Though school may be out for the summer for the traditional undergraduate population, Asbury is abuzz with plenty of exciting activities ranging from ImpactU camps for high school students to Reunion 2019 and more.

For the next two weeks, Asbury is hosting a record number of high school students on campus for its highly popular academic camps. ImpactU challenges students to experience deep personal, academic and spiritual growth through worship times, fun camp activities and academic sessions in the subject of their choosing.

This week, students are delving into their passions in camps including Film I, Creative Writing and Adventure Leadership. Next week, students will hone their skills in camps like Film II, Theatre & Film Acting, Environmental Science & Biotechnology, Forensic Science and Equine.

Students have enjoyed getting a glimpse into life at Asbury, as well as making new friends during their time on campus.

Kallie Rush, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., has loved getting to meet new people during ImpactU and is considering Asbury in her college search.

“I really like the dorm rooms, to be honest,” Rush said. “It’s just really fun getting to talk with everyone on the halls.”

Cora Taylor, a sophomore from Elkhart, Kan., enjoyed her experience at ImpactU because she learned to combine her passion and curiosity for film with the technical knowledge required to work in the industry.

“I would recommend ImpactU because it’s showing us a lot of what we really want to do that other places aren’t exactly showing us, or people aren’t telling us,” Taylor said.

Rush, who was also in the Film I camp, learned a lot about teamwork during the week. The campers worked together to create a murder-mystery short film entitled “Time’s Up.”

“I’ve learned how to work with a group of people and work on a project,” Rush said. “I’ve done film before but there’s more steps to it than what I thought there was, so it’s nice to learn that.”
