Asbury University to Host Rend Collective Concert in November

August 3, 2018

Rend CollectiveAsbury University’s Hughes Auditorium is ready to rock! Christian folk band Rend Collective will play a Saturday night show in Hughes on November 10, 2018. Tickets to the autumn concert are on sale now.

This show is one of many annual events hosted by Asbury, open to the wider central Kentucky community. More than 50 musical performances are held on campus each academic year including departmental performances and shows from internationally-recognized visiting musicians. Just last month, Asbury put on Faith & Family Night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington which featured a concert by 7eventh Time Down.

In recent years, Asbury has also played host to artists like Ben Rector, All Sons & Daughters, The Afters, Building 429, Hawk Nelson, Family Force 5 and Royal Tailor. Additionally, events like Highbridge Film Festival draw in not only the local community but also film industry professionals and movie enthusiasts from all over the world.

Rend Collective hails from Bangor, Northern Ireland and is known for radio-spun worship tracks with a roots-y twist like “My Lighthouse” and “Build Your Kingdom Here.”

The band’s latest release Good News explores themes of brokenness, suffering and sharing the good news in the midst of that composite cultural heaviness. According to its website, “This album is an invitation to all of us – to lament, to remember and to share in the good news that belongs to all of us.” The album feels like a Christ-centered response to today’s cultural landscape through a collection of questioning yet hope-filled songs.

Fans of Rend Collective will be interested in purchasing a Deluxe Ticket to the November show, a $65 deal that includes early entry, an exclusive tour laminate, a deluxe copy of Good News, a professional photograph and question & answer session with the band, and an exclusive “crowd free” merchandise shopping experience.

Tickets for Asbury students are $20 while the public can purchase a general admission ticket for $25. Additionally, the general public can select the Friends & Family Four Pack deal which offers four tickets at $20 per ticket.

Up to 150 Asbury students will be able to gain free entry into the show. These free tickets will become available in early November. To be put on the list for free tickets, students can email Heather Tyner.

As a big fan of Rend Collective, Taryn Cipkowski ’19 was elated when she found out the band would be coming to Asbury’s campus.

“I was instantly excited and purchased tickets right away because I knew it was a concert I would not want to miss,” Cipkowski said.

There’s one song Cipkowski is most looking forward to hearing.

“‘Build Your Kingdom Here’ is my favorite song by them,” Cipkowski said. “As soon as it was released, my old worship pastor had us singing it in church. I love the message the lyrics have for the modern church and believe we all resonate with it.”

Co-Chair of the Concert Committee Sydney Scheller ’20 is equally as excited to see the show.

“It is a huge blessing to be able to host such an impactful worship band on our campus, and I cannot wait to see them live,” Scheller said. “We could use a little Irish spirit in Wilmore. I am most excited to hear anything from their Campfire II album. It is one of my favorites. I am also hoping to hear ‘More Than Conquerors.’ That song had a large impact on my friend group at church camp a few years ago and it would be such a blessing to hear live!”

Rend Collective’s distinct folk sound and Christ-centered lyrics are sure to provide a fun night of worship for Asburians and the local community. For additional information on the concert, contact Heather Tyner or purchase tickets here.
