Walking in Faith 5k Run/Walk
The group that gathered in the frosty morning air on Saturday was eclectic: lots of students, community members, people bundled up from nose to toes and people in sleek running outfits and minimal acknowledge of the temperature.
All came for the Walking in Faith 5k Run/Walk, a benefit event to help cover the costs associated with Courtney’s recovery. After a few opening remarks, Courtney took the mic to share about the accident and the decision to amputate, as well as to share a few new goals (varsity volleyball by Fall 2014).
The group walked together from Asbury’s campus to the course starting line a few blocks away. As the Wilmore police department handled traffic and cleared the route, the volleyball team formed a human starting line and counted down.
The race kicked off a busy schedule of Homecoming activities, including matches for the varsity and JV volleyball teams, but neither the early hour nor the prospect of a full day dimmed the chatter from walkers bringing up the rear.
