Description/Responsibilities:The Stephens Ministry Internship at Caraway Conference Center and Camp The Stephens Ministry is a 50-week internship program (June 1 to mid-May) designed to introduce recent college graduates, or gap-year college students to Christian Camp and Retreat Center Ministry by providing personal and professional growth opportunities through a year of immersion in this unique, meaningful occupation. The program name was chosen because of the important way Stephen supported the ministry of the disciples (Acts 6:1-7). Candidates will be professionally trained to serve in roles including guest services, recreation (lifeguarding, challenge courses, teambuilding, etc), nature education, office tasks, food service, and maintenance. Our desire is to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities of participants (Stephens) while they discern God’s call upon their life at this time – and if that call includes a career in camp/retreat ministry. Stephens will live, learn, grow, and thrive in community together through daily tasks, weekly meetings, Bible and book studies, a mission trip, an adventure recreation trip, and a professional conference. Caraway Conference Center and Camp is owned and operated by the Baptist State Convention of NC. Stephens, as intern employees of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, will be paid $200 per week. Lodging and food, a commons room with satellite TV and internet, and any required uniforms (program shirts, rain jackets, etc) are provided. Caraway Conference Center and Camp is an amazing place with a very promising future. For more information, or to apply, please contact Jeremy Jackson at firstname.lastname@example.org or 1(336)521-9211. Here is a glimpse into what the calendar year might look like. Summer: Beginning on June 1, participants in the Stephens Ministry will enter into 2 weeks of staff training focusing on their roles here at Caraway. These roles include food service, recreation, guest services, office work, environmental education, and some light maintenance. From mid-June to early August, Stephens will serve parallel with the summer camp program staff as lifeguards, ropes course facilitators, and food service assistants. In the evenings, Stephens will come together for Bible-studies and discipleship time with Caraway staff. The summer will end with a whitewater rafting adventure! Fall: Fall is the most popular time on the calendar for Caraway’s weekend retreat groups. During this time, Stephens will serve guest groups through guest services, food services, recreation, and some office and maintenance tasks. Stephens will also serve in environmental education and experiential education facilitator roles during the fall. All Stephens have the week of Thanksgiving off (paid). Winter: The winter at Caraway is a time of planning and preparing. Stephens will assist in planning projects and perform light maintenance tasks (painting, cleaning, etc). Stephens also have a 3 week break during the Christmas holidays. In January, the group will go on a 1-week Mission Trip – normally in Western NC to the Shelby Mission Camp. Early in March, the Stephens will participate in the regional conference for the Christian Camp and Conference Association. Spring: From mid-March to mid-May the Stephens will facilitate Caraway’s thriving environmental education program called A.C.O.R.N.S.. We serve over 4,000 elementary students through this program. Many weekends during the spring are spent serving guest groups and providing recreation opportunities. Stephens will have a week off around Easter.
