Preparations are now in full swing for the Governor's School for the Arts 2014, which will be held at Centre College in Danville. We hope you will consider joining our successful team. Below are details for each summer staff position: Resident Advisor, Discipline Assistant and Summer Administrative Intern. It is not a requirement to be an alumnus of GSA in order to be on staff. Key Dates Applicants Would Need To Be Available: Training Period June 17-21, 2014 at Centre College in Danville – Report to campus June 16 (Training for all RAs, DAs, and Interns) GSA 2014 June 22-July 12, 2014 Other Important Information: Salary: Minimum wage ($7.25/hr.), plus room and board, are provided by GSA. (GSA withholds taxes on compensation.)
Resident Advisor Application Information It is preferable that candidates have college or camp residential advising experience although it is not a requirement. Applicants must have completed their sophomore year in college or have been out of high school for two years past their high school graduation date before the beginning of the summer program. Resident Advisors (RAs) live with the students in the dorms and supervise a group of 10 students. The RAs are led by a Head RA, two Residential Supervisors and a Counselor. If you have served as a GSA RA previously and have an interest in Head RA or Co-Residential Supervisor, please indicate in cover letter. Discipline Assistant Application Information PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE: Candidates for GSA’s Discipline Assistantships should have an interest in a teaching career and should have completed their sophomore year in college or have been out of high school for two years past their high school graduation date before the beginning of the summer program. Discipline Assistants (DAs) are part of the instructional team and responsibilities are that of a student teaching position. DAs serve as a liaison between the faculty and students. Each artistic discipline has one Discipline Assistant, with the exception of instrumental music, which has two. (One of the two DA’s for Instrumental music must have a percussion background.) Summer Administrative Internship Application Information Interns work with the full-time GSA administrative staff gaining administrative skills and building valuable work experience. We are willing to work with your college or university in helping you to gain college credit (if applicable). Candidates for GSA’s internship positions should have an interest in arts administration and should have completed their freshman year in college at the beginning of the summer. There are three intern positions available (2 during the summer program only; 1 for pre-summer (in Louisville) and summer program). Responsibilities include assisting with preparations for and the administration of the summer program. Other projects will be arranged according to the intern’s interests and as they relate to pre-arranged college credit requirements. Housing will be provided for the length of the GSA summer program only.

In order to be considered for a position, please submit the following: I. Your résumé citing your education and employment history. Please give special emphasis to any experience you have that would pertain to the position(s). As well, include any special interests/skills and community service involvement. Please include a current address, cell phone number and email address. II. A cover letter which details your interest in the position (s). Please list which position(s) you are interested in applying for. III. Three professional references. Please include the name, title, occupation, phone number, email address, relationship to you (employer, professor, etc.) and the length of time each reference has known you. Letters of recommendation are not necessary. Please submit all materials by Thursday, December 5, 2013 in order to be considered for any position. From résumés submitted, we will select applicants for interviews. PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE: If you have worked for GSA within the last two summer seasons, you will not receive an interview unless you request a leadership position: CRS or Head RA. You must be a returning staff member to be eligible for staff leadership. If selected, we will email you to schedule a 30 minute interview for December 9-13 or 16-20 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Applicants with a longer drive to Louisville can be granted a phone or Skype interview.) If any of these dates conflict with your school’s winter session or other plans, please indicate the date(s) you will be available for an interview in your cover letter. Those not selected for an interview will be notified by December 13.
