St. Luke United Methodist Church in Lexington, KY is seeking a Worship Leader who is able to lead dynamic and creative worship experiences on Sunday morning and Thursday evenings. We need a leader who can effectively lead, equip, and encourage our praise band musicians and other volunteers who desire to use their gifts in the worship of God. The successful applicant must have a heart for worship, possess skills in worship music leadership and the ability to work with a team to plan a comprehensive worship experience for a multi-generational, multi-cultural congregation that averages nearly 700 weekly. This is a part time position (approximately 15 hours per week) but depending on the giftedness of the successful applicant, the position could be expanded to include additional aspects of a dynamic worship/music ministry. • Leadership: Provides direction by clearly and effectively setting course of action for the position and subordinates (if applicable); manages performance by providing regular feedback and reinforcement; demonstrates a team orientation and team building skills • Commitment: Sets goals and works toward them to lead others, within and beyond the church, toward St. Luke’s vision of “Jesus Christ in Every Life” • Congregational Service: Meets or exceeds the expectations and requirements of other staff members and congregants, by striving to identify needs of both through monitoring and measuring spiritual and practical needs • Effective Communication: Ensures important information is passed to those who need to know; conveys necessary information clearly and effectively, both orally or in writing; demonstrates attention to and understanding of the comments and questions of others; listens effectively • Responsiveness and Accountability: Demonstrates a high level of Christian maturity and conscientiousness; holds oneself personally responsible for one’s own work; completes work in a timely and thoughtful way • Credentials: Bachelor’s degree preferable or specific musical training and experience in worship music to enable strong leadership of congregational singing, rehearsal of praise band and coaching of solos or small ensembles as needed. Must be comfortable working with a variety of musical styles. Requires excellent people skills, a heart for worship and must be creative in worship design.
