Description/Responsibilities:The Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA), located at 260 Democrat Drive, Frankfort, KY 40601 is seeking a college intern to serve in the governmental relations department. KSBA is a member service organization representing all 174 local Kentucky school districts. One of the core services KSBA provides to its members is governmental relations services. KSBA lobbies the Kentucky General Assembly, the Kentucky Board of Education and Kentucky’s Congressional delegation on issues related to education and local governments.
Requirements/Qualifications:KSBA is looking for a college student interested in the legislative process and politics, which could include majors in political science, communications, public relations and/or pre-law. The individual must have excellent written and oral communication skills; basic knowledge of the legislative process; and an ability to work with diverse groups of people. Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above and be a junior or senior status. While not required, basic knowledge of social networking and other technology basics would be beneficial. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office and the ability to operate a variety of office equipment is required. The intern will work directly with the KSBA director of governmental relations. The intern must be available for approximately 12 to 15 hours per week, depending on college internship requirements; have a current driver's license; be able to attend legislative committee meetings; track legislation; attend various meetings with legislators; and write newsletters and other communications for KSBA members. Non-paid internship would be eligible to receive college credit after meeting the requirements of the college program. KSBA will provide mileage reimbursement to the intern (to and from KSBA and/or the Capitol).
