Asbury Campaign Hits $40-Million Milestone

WILMORE, Ky. — After being publically launched in late June, “Ignited: the Campaign for Asbury University” has achieved a major milestone by surpassing the $40-million mark in gift commitments.

The most comprehensive capital campaign in Asbury’s history, Ignited has met more than two-thirds of its ambitious $62-million goal. The campaign will fund key areas including scholarships, revitalization of the Student Center, the building of Asbury’s new Collaborative Learning Center (CLC), recruiting and equipping faculty, and more.

Ignited has already been through a quiet phase under the direction of a steering committee led by alumni Greg Isaacs ’83 and Walt ‘63 and Rowena ‘63 Shaw, and will be completed during a four-year public phase. For more information on Ignited, visit the campaign Web site at: asbury.edu/Ignited.

“With more than two-thirds of our campaign goal already met, the success of Ignited is outstanding and affirms Asbury’s mission and God’s abundant faithfulness,” said Charlie Shepard ’99, vice president for Institutional Advancement at Asbury. “While we understand we must continue to press on in our efforts to help students, equip faculty and provide modern facilities, we pause momentarily to celebrate this occasion.  We are deeply grateful for the financial support that has brought us to this point, and eagerly anticipate engaging with many other alumni, parents and friends in partnership to change the world." 

Jenna Heiner ’09 Molnar, an Asbury alumna and member of the Ignited Campaign Steering Committee, has been inspired by donors’ generosity and care for Asbury students. 

“The Lord has been kind to create opportunity after opportunity for us to share the bright vision we have for Asbury University, and donors are jumping on board,” Molnar said. “I think the momentum is still building, and I can't wait to see all that will unfold over the next few years.”

The ongoing success of Ignited will undergird Asbury’s mission for years to come, and Molnar feels the greatest significance of Ignited is its spiritual impact.

“With a great deal of prayer and discussion, the Campaign Steering Committee created Guiding Principles at the start of the campaign, and the principle that stays at the top of my mind is, ‘To meet people in heaven who came to know Jesus through this journey,’” Molnar said. “Seeing buildings go up, scholarships become available and new programs develop is wonderful, but I really am most excited to know that lives are being changed eternally as a result of the Ignited Campaign.”
