WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury University recently welcomed back to campus Dr. Billy Kim and the Korean Children’s Choir for a Chapel performance that left the standing-room-only crowd touched and inspired.
Kim serves as the pastor emeritus of the 15,000-member Suwon Central Baptist Church in Suwon, Korea, and is chairman of the Far East Broadcast Company (FEBC), a media ministry with 11 Christian radio stations in Korea. Through his work with FEBC, as well as Youth for Christ, the Baptist World Alliance and various educational institutions, millions of people around the world have been introduced to the Christian faith.
Citing the examples of Abraham, Moses, Hannah, Mary and other Biblical models, Kim encouraged his listeners to remain faithful and committed to reaching others with the love of God, even if their influence seems small. It’s a mindset that changed Kim’s own life when an American soldier he met during the Korean War later helped to pay for Kim to travel to the United States, receive a solid education and become a Christian.
“Never underestimate what God can do with one person dedicated to the cause of Christ,” Kim said. “If you are determined to serve God, He will use you.”
While Asbury students knew this was a don’t-miss Chapel due to the Choir’s visit last spring — “It’s one of the best Chapels ever,” said sophomore Kaylyn Wilson. “I love it when the kids come and hug you,” — the children were anticipating a good time, as well. Ye Ji Hong is a 12-year-old member of the Choir and enjoyed seeing the way neither language nor cultural barriers kept them from connecting.
“I love the energy from the audience after a performance,” she said. “Even though we’re all different, God is bringing us together.”
