Asbury Helps Sponsor County Job Search Skills Fair
Asbury University will join several Central Kentucky organizations to sponsor the Jessamine County Job Search Skills Fair at the Jessamine County Public Library in Nicholasville on Sept. 19.
The purpose of the event, which will run from 9-11:30 a.m., is to assist the unemployed and underemployed of Jessamine County in developing effective employment skills and learn more about resources offered through Kentucky’s Career Centers. The event is being coordinated by the Jessamine County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Jason Clayton, director of Asbury’s Center for Career and Calling and a board member of the Chamber of Commerce, says that the University’s participation in the event is a way to practice good stewardship.
“We’re serving the community of which we are a part,” he said. “This is one way to serve — partnering with other agencies in the region.”
Clayton says that participating in the event is also a way for Asbury to reflect the love of God.
“We want to be the church to meet the needs of people in our own immediate communities,” he said. “This is one way to do it. We’re collaborating with other partners in our region to make it happen.”
Attendees will learn about the free employment assistance resources available through Kentucky’s Career Centers, develop basic, personalized resumes, learn about the various job searching resources available to them online and in their communities, and complete training in interviewing techniques. The event is free and registration is not required. However, pre-registration to ensure a spot is available at bgwib.com.
