Political Awareness Week, Sept. 24-26
By Leah Riley, a senior from Harrodsburg, Ky.
WILMORE, KY—In part with Asbury College’s Political Awareness Week, Dr. Michael Lindsay will be speaking in Chapel on Sept. 24, 2008. His presentation is titled “Redeeming Power.” Dr. Lindsay will also take part in a panel discussion Wednesday evening concerning “Christian Influence in Public Life,” held in the Kenyon room of the Student Center.
Dr. Lindsay is from Houston Texas, where he is a member of the sociology faculty at Rice University. He is the faculty associate of Leadership Rice and assistant director of the Center on Race, Religion, and Urban Life. Previously, he was the Harold W. Dodds Fellow and a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow in the department of sociology at Princeton University. Dr. Lindsay also serves as the consultant for religion and culture at the George H. Gallup International Institute. He has received several awards for his writing, teaching, speaking, and top honors from two international scholarly societies.
In his recently published book, Faith in the Halls of Power: How Evangelicals Joined the American Elite, Dr. Lindsay interviewed hundreds of leaders in very senior positions in business, entertainment, sports, public service and the arts to learn how they integrate their religious and ethical convictions with their leadership roles.
Following Dr. Lindsay’s appearances on Wednesday, another panel discussion on environmental politics will be held on Thursday evening in the Kenyon room, and a lunch time panel on judicial issues in the 2008 election is on Friday in the Cafeteria.
These panels and discussions are sponsored by the Department of Business, Economics, and Political Science at Asbury College.
