Student Center open for business
WILMORE, KY—The Student Center is open for business! The Asbury College community can now enjoy this newly renovated space for game nights, movies, meetings, studying and a good cup of Joe. This beautiful new space offers students the opportunity to hang out inside and out.
The Student Center is open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m.-12:30 a.m., Friday 7:30 a.m.-1 a.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-1 a.m. and Sunday 1:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
The coffee shop, operated by Solomon’s Porch, is open selling coffee, specialty teas and pastries.
Wireless internet is available throughout the building and on the deck. Students can also check e-mail on the three new iMac Intel computers located in the middle of the center. Sound systems in four areas will play WACW or Christian music throughout the day.
Students can check out games, pool equipment, ping pong paddles and other items at the information desk with a student ID.
Clubs and organizations can reserve the meeting rooms by checking with the steward at the information desk and larger student events can be reserved in the Kenyon room. Contact Carolyn Hampton and Lora Cuckler to reserve that space. Students can also enjoy movie nights in the TV room located off the Kenyon room. The first movie night on the 16-foot screen included more than 250 students!
Construction crews wereable to maintain much of original charm of the Morrison-Kenyon Building including the world map on the floor in the Kenyon room. This map was given to the College by the class of 1956 as their class gift.
Several other amenities will be opening soon at the student center including a deck.
The deck was designed by Karl Laufenburger, a member of Asbury College’s physical plant, and built by several alumni over the summer. The deck has several sets of patio furniture for students, faculty, staff and guests to enjoy throughout the year.
Visitors and the College community can stock up on Asbury apparel and memorabilia at the retail kiosk in the front room. Student government office have moved to the Student Center and the Collegian is now located in the Grille. Commuter lockers are also available and art alumni have provided the paintings throughout the building.
Alumni and friends are welcome to visit the new center during Homecoming and other campus events.
