Music department hosts All-Star Band Clinic
WILMORE, KY— The Asbury College Music Department hosts the 30th Annual All-Star Band Clinic Nov. 16-18. The clinic band is composed of 100 high school students representing 29 high schools in four states.
James Curnow, the internationally acclaimed conductor and composer, will conduct the band. Curnow is the composer-in-residence emeritus at Asbury College and a resident of Nicholasville. He was a faculty member at the College when the All-Star Band Clinic began in 1976.
Weekend activities include concerts by Asbury College ensembles and the All-Star Band. On Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Hughes Auditorium, the College ensembles present “Collage 2006” with the college concert band, percussion ensemble, vocal ensemble and women’s choir. At 9:30 p.m. the college jazz ensemble performs in the Grille.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the All-Star Band joins the college handbell choir, the concert choir and Dr. Mark Schell, organ professor, for the weekend finale.
The All-Star Band concert features music created by Asbury College alumni composers Timothy Johnson, Shawn Okpebholo, William Latham and James Curnow.
