According to local statistics, only 125 structures out of 4,000 in the town survived the category-four hurricane last August. Volunteers have donated thousands of hours of volunteer work and supplies to aid the recovery efforts. Students, faculty and staff also raised $30,000 which was given to the community through The Salvation Army.

Asbury College volunteers have completed five trips with a sixth scheduled for summer 2006. The Thanksgiving and Spring Break trips attracted more than 70 volunteers each time. During spring break, Asbury College students were featured on WLOX in Biloxi, Miss., for returning to local residents’ homes to pick up where they left off in November.
