Asburians Minister Through Theatre at National Conference
WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury students and a recent graduate will perform with a professional theatre ensemble at the sold-out Revive ’17 women’s conference in Indianapolis, Ind. (Sept. 29-30). Register to watch the conference live online.
The conference is presented by Revive Our Hearts, a national women’s ministry led by speaker and radio host Nancy De Moss. With an anticipated attendance of 3,000 the conference will also be live-streamed for a global audience.
The theatre portion of the conference — 14 original pieces written and directed by Asbury Professor Carol Anderson — presents outstanding opportunities for participating Asbury students and alumni. Abby Hamilton ’17, a recent Worship Arts graduate will weave one of her original songs into a powerful piece on the effects of gossip. Melina Martinez ’18, a Media Communication major, will hone dramatic and comedic acting skills in a new venue. Stage manager Hannah Coleman ’19, an Education major, and sound designer Quinnette Connor ’18, also a Media Communication major, will earn experience under professionals who have worked on the Jimmy Fallon show and Saturday Night Live.
“These young women are doing a great job,” Anderson said. “They’ve been working hard, and together with the older actresses, the pieces have come to life and are hilarious, moving and powerful by turn. Our prayer request from the Asbury community is that the Lord protect us, empower us and use us to speak to the hearts of women during this amazing conference.”
Other cast members include Anderson; Dr. Jim Shores, who serves as chair of Asbury’s Department of Communication, Worship Arts & Theatre; Jocelyn Suluka and Susan Jung.
