Asbury Announces Partnership With Lumina College
WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury University officials have announced a groundbreaking partnership between Asbury and Lumina College, a Christian institution based in Hong Kong.
Asbury President Sandra C. Gray and Lumina President Wing Tai Leung signed an agreement on June 12 through which students at Lumina will be able to earn a Master of Arts in Communication: Digital Storytelling from Asbury.
The first cohort of Lumina students will begin classes in Fall 2018 in a hybrid program that incorporates online and classroom learning. Lumina students will complete part of their coursework online, supplemented with weeklong intensive sessions with Asbury faculty on site.
Through this partnership, Asbury embraces the “world parish” vision of John Wesley, partnering with a like-minded institution to offer outstanding Christian higher education in Hong Kong and the surrounding region.
“I’m excited to see the worldwide impact that arises from Asbury University’s partnership with Lumina College,” Gray said. “God works through people, and His wisdom in bringing us together, from Hong Kong and the U.S., will enable us to further His purposes. Through this international collaboration, we will further academic excellence and spiritual vitality, strengthening our mission to impact the world for Christ.”
For Leung, the partnership represents a much-needed cooperation in international higher education, and he believes it will lay the groundwork for similar efforts throughout Christian higher education.
“This partnering is a path-finding, pace-setting moment,” Leung said. “It’s very important as a Christian witness. I think we’re going to impact collaboration in Christian higher education leadership in the east as well as the west.”
