Asbury University celebrates the Christmas season with a full schedule of holiday events.

WILMORE, Ky. — It may be the last week of fall classes at Asbury University, but along with last-minute study sessions, projects and papers, the Asbury community is still making space to celebrate Christmas. From Christmas carols and cookies to chestnuts roasting on an open fire, here are some opportunities to get in the Christmas spirit at Asbury!

Christmas Music Chapel

  • What: An annual favorite, Christmas Music Chapel features Asbury ensembles performing beloved Christmas songs. This year’s lineup will showcase the Concert Band, Men’s Glee Club and Women’s Choir, performing favorites like “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” “Greensleeves” and “Of the Father’s Love Begotten.”
  • When: Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Hughes Auditorium

Johnson Hall Christmas Party

  • What: Johnson Hall will host its traditional Christmas gathering. This year’s events include hall Christmas decorating competitions, readings of the Christmas story, a special poetry reading from the Johnson RAs, hot wassail and chestnuts roasted on an open fire.
  • When: Wednesday, Nov. 30, 7:30-10 p.m.
  • Where: Johnson Hall

Equine Christmas in the Country

  • What: Asbury’s Equine Center presents “Journey to the Manger,” a walk-through live nativity show of Jesus’ birth. The show will feature Asbury students and horses to tell the Nativity story, incorporating performances from the vaulting team and the service mounts program. In addition to the show, guests will enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, and the beautiful scenery of Asbury’s Equine Center! Free tickets are available at the front desk of the Luce Center.
  • When: Thursday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Asbury University Equine Center.
  • Note: Parking will be at the Providence School in Wilmore (210 S. Lexington Ave) with van shuttles to the barn starting at 5 p.m. Guests are advised to wear warm clothing and boots!

Christmas Music Concert

  • What: Asbury University’s Handbell Choir and Jazz Ensemble will present a Christmas concert in the Student Center. Come hear Christmas favorites, visit with friends and enjoy Christmas cookies!
  • When: Thursday Dec. 1, at 11 a.m.
  • Where: Student Center

European Christmas Market

  • What: Hosted by Intercultural Programs, the European Christmas market will offer refreshments, music, crafts and European fair trade items for sale through Word Made Flesh.
  • When: Thursday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.
  • Where: Student Center

Songs of the Season

  • What: Combining music and literature, “Songs of the Season” will feature the Asbury Chorale and Orchestra with literary readings by English Department faculty. The program will include traditional carols, music by Corelli, Holst and Handel, readings from Gerard Manley Hopkins, Thomas Hardy, T.S. Eliot and much more.
  • When: Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Where: Hughes Auditorium

Christmas Devotions with President Gray

  • What: In the final Chapel of the semester, President Sandra C. Gray will lead the Asbury community in a Christmas devotion contemplating and celebrating the birth of Jesus.
  • When: Friday, Dec. 2 at 10 a.m.
  • Where: Hughes Auditorium 

Wilmore Old-Fashioned Musical Christmas

  • What: A beloved community tradition, Wilmore Old-Fashioned Musical Christmas will feature all-day events including a Christmas Craft Fair, Christmas Holiday Market, painted windows display, tree-lighting ceremony and a grand finale featuring an all-town choir at Wilmore United Methodist Church.
