WILMORE, Ky. — For the Asbury University Eagles and the University of Kentucky Wildcats, the men’s basketball exhibition on Nov. 6 will be a historic first. For one Eagle and one Wildcat though, it will be a meeting of old friends.

Asbury will meet UK in Lexingon’s Rupp Arena at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6. Tickets are available to the general public and can be purchased through Ticketmaster (Asbury has no tickets available for purchase).

Asbury’s Trenton Thompson ‘19 will face off with UK sophomore Dillon Pulliam, a friend he has known since he was around 2 years old. Natives of Cynthiana, Ky., Thompson and Pulliam also played on the same team at Harrison County High School.

“It’s going to be an awesome experience,” said Thompson, a Middle School Education major at Asbury. “We grew up wanting to play college basketball, and now we’re getting to play against each other. It’s a dream come true.”

Ever since Thompson and Pulliam learned they would play against each other, the two friends have enjoyed a heightened sense of rivalry.

“We’re always talking smack back and forth about who’s going to score on each other, whether we’re going to end up having to guard each other,” Thompson said.

Unlike many Central Kentucky natives, Thompson doesn’t bleed blue — not even a little bit. He’s been a University of Florida fan since he was a kid, inspired by the Gators’ logo. Nevertheless, getting to play in Rupp Arena will be yet another dream fulfilled.

“Playing in front of all those fans is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Thompson said. “This is the biggest stage in college ball, and playing against one of my best friends is a bonus.”

Mark your calendars!

Asbury University students, alumni and friends will have opportunities to join the fun and show off their school spirit leading up to exhibition on Nov. 6.

  • On Nov. 5, former men’s basketball players are invited to an Open Gym with coach Will Shouse ’02 and current players (4-6 p.m.). Dinner will be available following the event ($10/person).
