Campus Night Celebrates Asbury Athletics
April 20, 2016
WILMORE, Ky. – “Play ball!” three-year-old Liam Shepard yelled, jumping up and down on the bleachers at Asbury University’s Kirkland Complex on Friday.
Shepard wasn’t the only one excited for a night of Asbury Baseball. From across campus, Eagles fans packed the stands at the Kirkland Complex for Campus Night, enjoying free hot dogs, balmy spring weather and a ceremonial first pitch thrown by President Sandra C. Gray.
With radio coverage by WLRT 1250 AM out of Lexington, Ky., the game kept fans on the edge of their seats. In a double-header, the Eagles won the first game and dropped the second — but for the Asbury community, Campus Night was an all-around winner.
“I’m loving the inviting atmosphere and the chance to watch some good baseball,” said Megan Hughes ’18. “It’s great to hang out with friends and watch people play in an awesome venue for fellowship.”
Campus Night also included a recognition of graduating seniors on the baseball team. The following seniors were honored during the event:
- #3 Logan Crum
- #13 Dallas Murphy
- #32 Brandon Ray
- #17 Zach Settle
- #25 Kyle Sieberts
- #7 Jon Wilson
- #16 Andrew Moran
Campus Night is one of many ways the Asbury community supports and encourages its student-athletes, who make up nearly 30 percent of the student body.
“Stands are full and it’s a great night for baseball,” said Mark Perdue, director of Asbury Athletics. “This event really brings the community together, and it’s a great way for us to support each other in all our activities and endeavors.”
