Guests Brave Weather for Winter ACCESS at Asbury
January 22, 2016
WILMORE, Ky. — In spite of wintery weather, 20 families braved the elements to attend the Winter ACCESS visit event at Asbury University this weekend.
Even though Friday’s classes were cancelled, visiting students had the opportunity to interact with admissions staff, eat lunch with faculty and stay with current students in Asbury’s residence halls.
“We’re thrilled that so many people came out for Winter ACCESS in spite of the weather,” said Visit Coordinator Mallary Wiley. “These kinds of events are what expose high school students to the greatness of Asbury. It’s a chance to sit down and talk with professors, see what campus life is like. Even students who didn’t get to visit classes this weekend said they had a blast spending the night in the dorms.”
Friday afternoon, many faculty members who live near campus made an extra effort to stop by Johnson Cafeteria to eat lunch and spend some time with visiting students.
“I’ve been interested in Asbury for a long time, and looked forward to visiting,” said high school junior Brett Gillispie, whose parents are both Asbury alumni. “Having a chance to sit down and talk with professors was the best part of the event.”
In surveys collected at the end of Winter ACCESS, another visitor expressed appreciation for the dedication of Asbury’s Admissions staff:
“I loved learning more about Asbury and experiencing the wonderful spirit of the admissions staff,” the visitor wrote. “What a great place!”
