WILMORE, KY. — Asbury University will host Alex Buono, director of photography for the Saturday Night Live (SNL) Film Unit, for two visual storytelling workshops in Asbury’s state-of-the-art Miller Center Screening Room on Jan. 25.

Buono will lead a private workshop for Asbury students from 2-3 p.m., as well as a public session — free and open to the community — from 7-9 p.m.

“We’re excited for our students to be able to hear from a renowned industry professional,” said Jim Owens, dean of Asbury’s School for Communication Arts. “Our hope is that Buono will open their eyes to new ideas and help them learn better visual storytelling.”

Buono has been the Director of Photography for the SNL Film Unit since 1999. He has won numerous awards for his work, including a 2003 Oscar Nomination and a 2005 Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival. Following, Alex wrote, produced and shot the documentary feature “Bigger Stronger Faster,” which premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Other credits include the award-winning ESPN comedy series “Mayne Street” as well as Second Unit DP work on the ABC series “Detroit 187,” the HBO series “True Blood” and the NBC series “Chicago Fire.”

The event is sponsored by Canon Cameras.
