WILMORE, Ky. — This year’s event has just begun, and the stories are already flying between alumni and guests as “Reunion 2012: Stories to Tell” kicks off at Asbury University.

Throughout the next three days, alumni and their families will reconnect with each other and the 122-year-old institution that has, in many cases, provided a framework for ministry, professional service and spiritual growth through the years. Highlights of the weekend include the following:

“An Evening with C.S. Lewis,” at 7 p.m. on Friday, in Hughes Auditorium

British actor David Payne will bring to life C.S. Lewis, one of the intellectual giants of the 20th century and arguably the most influential Christian writer of his day, in a one-man show. Asbury University’s Lewis scholar Dr. Devin Brown and media communication professor Greg Bandy will present their documentary on Lewis for an added bonus.

Departmental open houses, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, in various locations around campus

The College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Communication Arts, the School of Education and the Health, Physical Education and Recreation department will each offer alumni and their guests an opportunity to learn about the latest programs while reconnecting with other alumni in their major. A faculty presentation will take place at 11 a.m.

Variety Show of Recognitions and Recollections, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, in Hughes Auditorium

Asburians of all generations have stories to tell — of God’s faithfulness, mentoring by professors, unique campus rules (and how they might have been broken), and of life-long friendships that were formed. This evening event will creatively present stories, “urban legends,” testimonies, and alumni talent that have impacted the history and ministry of the University throughout the world. Alumni awards will also be presented.

Worship Service, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, in Hughes Auditorium

For so many alumni, worship in Hughes Auditorium is a defining memory of their years at Asbury University. A hymn sing beginning at 9 a.m. and memorial observance at 9:45 a.m. will lead into a time of worship and reflection on God’s word.
