"The Importance of Being Earnest" will go on stage in the Miller Center's Greathouse Theatre.WILMORE, Ky. — Asbury University will present its spring drama, “The Importance of Being Earnest,” in its original, four-act version beginning this weekend in the Greathouse Theatre of the Miller Center for Communication Arts.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23, 24 and 25, and March 1, 2 and 3. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased before each show.

“The Importance of Being Earnest,” one of playwright Oscar Wilde’s most popular works, was first performed on Valentine’s Day in 1895 in London and addresses themes of love and marriage in Victorian England. Wilde’s skill in peppering the script with paradoxes and epigrams has earned him kudos for his command of the English language.

“The key to a lot of the comedy in ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ is timing and complete mastery of the script,” said Jeff Day, director and assistant professor in Asbury’s Theatre and Cinema Performance program. “The students in the cast have worked really hard to make this a fun, thought-provoking performance.”
