Asbury College confers more than 220 degrees
WILMORE, KY— On May 13 more than 220 students received a bachelor’s degree and 19 received master’s degrees from Asbury College. Two ROTC seniors were commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants in the Army.
In the class of 2007, seven students graduated Summa Cum Laude with a cumulative GPA of 3.97 or better; 32 students were named Magna Cum Laude (3.96-3.8 GPA); 48 students were Cum Laude (3.79-3.5 GPA) and two students received honorable mention recognition.
Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, executive director and founder of World Hope International, addressed the graduates during commencement ceremonies. Rev. Richard Gaines, pastor at Consolidated Baptist Church in Lexington, delivered the baccalaureate message to the graduating seniors, families and friends.
Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas, president of Asbury Theological Seminary, received an honorary degree from the College during the commencement ceremony.
In a surprise presentation, Dr. William C. Crothers and his wife, Rilla, were also recognized for their service to Asbury College this year. Having retired from the presidency at Roberts Wesleyan College in 2002, Crothers took over as president of Asbury College in July 2006 until a permanent president could be hired. During commencement ceremonies on Sunday, Dr. Crothers said, “When I retired, I didn’t think I would have to wear this again,” referring to his academic regalia. Asbury College presented Crothers with an honorary degree from the College.
