WILMORE, KY— The media communications department is offering two workshops this semester featuring special guests who are discussing different aspects of television production.

February 22 (10:45-11:45 a.m.) The Future of Television Sports
Ben Brown, Vice President—Operations & Administration, Wheeler Sports
Since 2000, Brown has been responsible for the day-to-day operations and finances for Wheeler Television. Wheeler is subcontracted to cover sports for Fox Sports, NBC, Speed and TNN. He has also served as a production executive overseeing projects for Speed, Fox, Alltel, TBS and TNN. Prior to that appointment, Brown was the operations manager for more than 750 live events for ESPN, including NCAA basketball and football, NBA basketball and NASCAR. Brown is a 1987 graduate of the College’s media communications program.

March 15 (10:45-11:45 a.m.) Sitcom Production
Douglas Smart, Television Director and Professor, State University of New York
Doug Smart comes to Asbury College with more than 20 years of professional directing experience at the network level. He has directed for Disney, NBC, Lorimar, CBS, MTM Productions, PBS, Fox and Warner. He was the associate director for two of ABC’s Annual Academy Awards shows and CBS’s American Film Institute Lifetime Achievement Award shows for Alfred Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart. He will be giving an overview of directing sitcoms. Smart is joining the College’s media communications faculty specializing in television production this summer.
