Presidential Inauguration

Kevin J. Brown, Ph.D.

Teaching Enduring Qualities and Holding Timeless Values

On March 6, 2020, Asbury University formally inaugurated Kevin J. Brown as the 18th president. During his address, Dr. Brown shared the modalities by which Asbury fulfills her educational charter will continue to change so students are equipped with the requisite skills needed to be relevant in a dynamic global economy. However, the University’s mission goes beyond just preparing students for the workforce. Our heritage invites students to take hold of the abundant life offered to them in Christ.

The inauguration events were confirmation that God is raising up the next generation of leadership for a Christ-centered institution that seeks to service His purposes. We invite you to watch the videos below of the Installation Service and President’s Panel discussion on timeless transformations.

About President Brown

Inheriting a long institutional legacy of academic excellence and spiritual vitality, Brown is well-positioned to build on Asbury’s historic strengths while seeking out new opportunities. Brown is committed equally to the timeless values of the liberal arts, the here-and-now business realities of higher education and Asbury’s foundational identity as a Christian university in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition.

About Asbury University

A nationally-recognized Christian liberal arts university in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, Asbury University has transformed lives at the intersection of faith and learning since 1890. Asbury has a rich history of revival, including a 1970 outpouring of the Holy Spirit that led to a week of cancelled classes, 144 hours of unbroken revival and the sending out of more than 2,000 witness teams from Wilmore to churches and at least 130 college campuses around the nation.

Asbury’s mission is to equip students, “through academic excellence and spiritual vitality, for lifelong learning, leadership and service to the professions, society, the family and the Church, preparing them to engage their cultures and advance the cause of Christ around the world.”

The University offers more than 150 areas of study, including undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, degree-completion programs and high school dual-enrollment programs to a student body of more than 1,900. The University’s globally aware heritage has produced more than 22,000 living alumni who live and serve in all 50 of the United States and more than 80 nations.

With a long tradition of excellence, Asbury has consistently earned top rankings in the U.S. News & World Report Best College Rankings. For 2019-20, Asbury moved up in the rankings, coming in at no. 9 on the list of more than 150 Regional Universities in the South — the only Christian (CCCU) institution to make the top 10 and the highest-ranked school from Kentucky in any category. Prior to joining the larger Regional Universities category in 2016, Asbury merited a spot in the top 5 of the U.S. News Regional College Category for five years in a row, even earning a no. 1 ranking in 2014-15.

Asbury’s greatest accolades, however, are the character and achievements of our students and alumni. Grounded in a robust liberal arts curriculum, excellently prepared for their careers and spiritually nourished in a vibrant Christian community, Asburians impact the world for Christ in every field of calling.
