Communication Field Experience: San Francisco

Travel Course Dates: May 9 – May 16, 2017

This course is intended to expose you to potential careers in communication-related fields, focusing on social media in Silicon Valley. We will meet with lead-ers at companies like Twitter, Patreon, and Google, examine cutting-edge tech innovation at Stanford University, and engage with professionals in public relations, ministry, academia, and entrepreneurship. We will also focus on how to thrive as a Christian in these vocations. Throughout this experience, we will enjoy the cultural and recreational opportunities offered by San Francisco, including Chinatown, Angel Island, The Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman’s Wharf, and several other locales.

COM 397 is a major sheet choice for all Communication emphases, or an Elective for non-Communication majors.

For those interested in completing their Cross-Cultural Engagement Requirement, they may use this experience towards CCE 073. This travel course will allow you the opportunity to learn about the Chinese-American experience and specifically better understand the experiences of this subcultural group in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Academic Credit

  • 3.0 Credit Hour towards COM 397
  • Can be counted toward Cross-cultural Engagement Requirement (CCE 073)

Cost

  • $2,059 per person
  • Includes three credit hour of academic credit, housing, local transportation, all educational and cultural site visits, some recreational sightseeing expenses, and 7 meals.
  • Does not include travel to and from San Francisco, some meals and personal expenditures.
