Four Asbury University alumni won a total of 15 regional Emmy Awards at the 51st annual awards ceremony of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) on June 25.

Honored at the ceremony were Asbury University Dean of Communication Arts Jim Owens ’79, Brandon Wickey ’99, Whit Bussey ‘08 and Brock Smith ’08. With eight Emmys, Smith received the most awards of any individual at the ceremony.

Additionally, Oculus Studios, owned by Bussey and Smith, won a total of nine Emmy Awards, and a promotional video created by Oculus Studios for Asbury’s Master of Arts in Communications: Digital Storytelling program won four Emmy Awards — more than any other single production at the ceremony.

In addition to awarding regional and professional Emmys, NATAS also offers college students an opportunity to submit their work in 19 regional chapters across the country. This year, Asbury students won a total of five Student Production Awards in the Ohio Valley Chapter — the highest number in Asbury’s history. "It's exciting to see the industry recognize our grads with these Emmy Awards," said Owens. "When peers evaluate our alumni at such a high level, it helps build our credibility with the industry, and it's further confirmation of the great work Asbury students and alumni are doing in the field."
