Reunion: Open Houses a Forum for Stories to Tell
Nestled in the midst of a busy schedule of activities and large-group gatherings at Reunion 2012 is an opportunity for alumni to take a few moments to connect with the classmates they know best.
On Saturday morning, each of Asbury’s schools will host open-house gatherings for the alumni connected with the majors in those schools. The open houses will begin at 10:30 a.m. on June 16, with a presentation at 11 a.m.
- School of Education — Kinlaw Library, Room 141
- School of Communication Arts — Miller Center for Communication Arts
- Health, Physical Education and Recreation — Equine Center
- Art Department — held in conjunction with the Art Exhibit Reception at 9 p.m. in the gallery above Z.T. Johnson Cafeteria
- College of Arts and Sciences — Student Center
“The open houses are designed to allow alumni to find out first-hand how Asbury’s departments and programs have transitioned from a college to university model while navigating changes in the economy and society,” said Dr. Steve Clements, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “It’s also a chance to reconnect with professors and remember how important — and increasingly rare — those relationships in higher education can be.”
The department open houses are not only a time for alumni to learn about the University, however; the departments also are interested to hear how Asbury graduates are impacting the world.
“We’d like to honor alumni have experiential knowledge of our mission of learning leadership and service for a lifetime,” said Dr. Verna Lowe, Dean of the School of Education. “This is a time for them to share with us their hopes and dreams for the future.”
