Kids College Registration Moves Online
Registration for Asbury University’s Kids College, a one-day event for school-aged children to explore the natural sciences, opens online at 8 a.m. on January 7 at https://sites.google.com/site/asburykidscollege/.
Kids College will take place on March 2 and consists of three one-hour classes in biology, chemistry and physics. It is open to students currently in kindergarten through 8th grade, with the students divided by age group (kindergarten, 1st-3rd grade, 4th-6th grade and 7th-8th grade).
Two sessions of Kids College will be offered. The morning session will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (check-in begins at 9 a.m.), and the afternoon session will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (check-in begins at 1:30 p.m.). Parents may leave after their student has checked in or may stay in the hospitality room in the Hamman Ray Science Building. Cost is $5 per student.
Kids College is sponsored by Sigma Zeta, the math and science honor society at Asbury, with help from more than 40 volunteers. Last year, 240 children from Kentucky and Southern Indiana participated in the event.
"Kids College is a great way for elementary and middle school children to come and learn about different areas of science in a fun, innovative, and hands-on environment," said Sigma Zeta President Alex Sizemore. "Math and Science Majors at Asbury volunteer as leaders for either the Biology, Chemistry, or Physics sections and create their own experiments for the event, all of which really engage the students and get them excited for learning about Science."
