Alumni Recital to Offer Classic, Original Compositions
The Asbury University Music Department will present an Alumni Recital at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 19 in Akers Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public.
Guest alumni performers include Rose Gresser ‘02 Evans, voice; Lisa Hall ‘07, organ; Mary Ann Wilder ‘03, piano; Chris Weiss ‘02, guitar; and David Abbott ‘02, guitar.
An annual event, the alumni recital is an opportunity to celebrate the musical fellowship among Asbury alumni that can extend long past the student years.
“This year’s recital is titled ‘In Ages Past,’ and the repertoire ranges from the 18th century to the present day,” said Asbury Music Professor Vicki Bell. “Listeners will be treated to a Bach fugue, a Mozart aria, plus original compositions by two alumni who are members of ‘Too Many Drummers,’ a local band with an impressive performance schedule and a devoted collection of followers.”
In addition, ECCO, a chamber choir mostly composed of Asbury alumni, will join the alumni performers in a presentation of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “O How Amiable.” This 20th century anthem concludes with the hymn “O God, Our Help in Ages Past,” and should provide an inspiring finale to the recital.
The recital will be followed by a reception in the lobby of the Fine Arts Building. For further information, please contact the Asbury University Music Department at (859) 858-3511, x2250.
