Asbury Chorale's Spring Tour Heads South
The Chorale, a four-part choir of Asbury University students, will perform in locations in Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina during the spring Chorale Tour April 12-14.
In addition to singing at churches throughout the weekend (complete schedule below), the choir will perform at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, N.C.
The repertoire for the group ranges from 16th-century Italy to 21st-century America and includes a setting of Revelation 14:13 from a 17th-century composer named Heinrich Schütz. A composition titled “Christus factus est,” which includes Latin lyrics that translate to “Christ became obedient for us unto death,” is a favorite with the choir.
“Most of the music we sing is sacred music, and spending time with these beautiful texts deepens our understanding of our faith,” said Dr. Vicki Bell, director of the Asbury Chorale.
A major component of the tour, in addition to the performances, is the opportunity to build relationships. Each night, choir members stay with host families connected to the churches in which they perform, and the time spent traveling also gives the members of the choir the chance to get to know each other better.
“One of my favorite things about the tour is spending quality time with my students,” said Bell. “I’ve accompanied our Asbury singers on two weekend tours and three international performance tours, and the time spent together making music is precious to me.”
