WILMORE, KY—Sophomore music major Chan-Mi Jean has been selected as the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Piano Competition State Winner.
Jean, originally of Seoul, South Korea, began playing the piano at age 4. Her piano professor Dr. Don Zent, a member of Kentucky Music Teachers Association, recommended her for the competition.
Jean performed Beethoven Sonata Op.81a, Schumann Symphony Etuden op.13, and a Chinese piece called “In Honor of a Beautiful Bird.” She advances to the second round of the Southern Division of MTNA to perform an extended program at Virginia State University in January 2009. She will compete with students from Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi.
After graduation, Jean would like to use her piano abilities in China where she lived for 11 years. “I thank God that he gave me ability to play piano, all the glory belongs to Him. I also thank my family, professors and friends, who have always been supporting me and praying for me.”
